MORRISON, Colo. (July 21, 2013) – Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines advanced to the semi-final round of eliminations at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, riding a Harley-Davidson® V-Rod® motorcycle to two round wins in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class.
Hines qualified eighth for the event with an Elapsed Time (ET) of 7.313 seconds. Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Ed Krawiec qualified the team’s other V-Rod in 10th position with an ET of 7.316 seconds. ProtecttheHarvest.com/MAVTV Buell rider Adam Arana led all qualifiers with a time of 7.242 seconds.
In Sunday eliminations, Hines and Krawiec each won in the first round on a holeshot. Hines used a combined reaction time/ET of 0.027/7.329 seconds to better Lucas Oil Buell rider Hector Arana (0.087/7.304 seconds), while Krawiec had a 0.012/7.332-second run to defeat Sovereign-Star Racing Buell rider Scotty Pollacheck (0.046/7.301 seconds). Hines won in round two when Adam Arana fouled at the start. Krawiec made another outstanding start with a 0.005/7.338-second run but it was not enough to defeat Lucas Oil Buell rider Hector Arana Jr. (0.058/7.276 seconds). Hines also had a great start in round three, posting a 0.008/7.374-second run despite losing his engine at 1,100 feet down the track, and lost to Pirana Z Racing Buell rider Shawn Gann (0.044/7.312 seconds). Gann defeated Arana Jr. in the final for his first event win of the season.
“We were both really racing hard this weekend,” said Hines. “We are getting closer to the top of the field on performance with our new two-valve V-Twin engine, but for now we are going to have to win at the tree. I think I had a chance in the third round but we’ve been hammering the engines all weekend and it just quit. At this mile-high elevation the engines have to work harder. Every run lasts longer and that takes its toll.”
The immediate goal of the Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines team is to get both riders into the top 10 in the class points and qualified for the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. After Denver, Krawiec is eighth in points, and Hines is 11th, with two events remaining on the schedule before the Countdown seeding is set.
“We are making progress and have two more races to get there,” said Krawiec, the defending NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion. “Right now the riders need to help the bikes and this weekend we did our jobs. Next weekend we’ll be back down at sea level at Sonoma and we’ll have a better idea of where we stand.”
After eight rounds of Pro Stock Motorcycle competition in the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Arana Jr. leads the class with 671 points. Sovereign-Star Racing Buell rider Michael Ray is second with 559 points, followed by Viper Motorcycle Company Buell rider Matt Smith in third with 543 points. Viper Motorcycle Company Buell rider John Hall is fourth with 503 points, followed by Pollacheck in fifth with 492 points. Krawiec is in eighth place with 412 points. Hines is 11th with 349 points.
The Pro Stock Motorcycles will next race July 26-28 at the 26th annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California.
