Vance & Hines, a leader in the motorcycle aftermarket industry and recognized for quality performance exhaust systems, is in search of a Prototype Technician to become part of our R&D Department.


This position is responsible for the fabrication of motorcycle exhaust systems and components. Once the prototype is mastered, they will develop final CAD drawings, bill of materials, installation instructions and production samples of all components. This position works in conjunction with the fixture and tooling departments to help develop all necessary operations for manufacturing of the product. This position is also responsible for following the product through the first production run by following it through all the manufacturing processes to ensure the end result is consistent with the design.


• Prototype and develop motorcycle exhaust systems and components
• Fabricate head pipes and heat shields
• Fabricate brackets and support components
• Finalize/master header and other assemblies and components for approval
• Create 2D CAD drawings of components
• Create a Bill of Materials for the final design
• Track and record project status
• Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations
• Efficiently and effectively manage time


• Metal fabrication and mechanical skills
• MIG & TIG Welding skills
• Must have basic computer skills
• Attention to detail
• Must have the ability to use 2D CAD
• Ability to use Adobe publishing software and MS Office
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach and move about the facility
• Must have the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
• Must have the ability to function as part of a team
• Must have the ability to listen to and follow written and verbal instruction
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively with Team Members and Supervisors


• High School Diploma or equivalent


Reports to: R&D Supervisor


• May interact with and receive direction daily from Department Lead Person and/or Team Lead
• Will interact with departmental personnel
• May interact with other departments and personnel, including Lead Fixture Technician, Fixture Technicians, Machinists, Engineering


• The performance of this position normally requires exposure to typical manufacturing areas where under certain conditions, use of personal protective equipment is required
