Interview

What’s your typical pre-race meal?
The night before I usually eat some pasta, but on race day I keep it pretty light and normal.

What is your pre-race OCD behavior?
I just try and be as normal as possible on race day and not try and be someone I am not. I’ve been doing this race thing a long time, and when I am myself, that is when I perform the best. Such as maybe talking to fans and friends a whole bunch on race day is not a normal riders pre race prep, but it seems to work for me.

What is one of your best racing memories?
That is a tough one, but I would have to say when I won the Daytona Short track national in 2009, as I had a bunch of adversity to overcome from that day, and we pulled it off. There are many, many other good ones too though.

What motivated you to get started racing?
My cousins and I just grew up riding dirt bikes pretty much every day after school, and we just eventually started doing some racing stuff but just for fun. Then next thing ya know, you are hooked.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a professional motorcycle racer?
Building log houses and furniture.

What’s the best thing about being a professional athlete?
I really like meeting the young kids at the races and wherever as I have 3 kids of my own and I truly know what a hand shake or signed picture means to a little kid. I like presenting an image they can look up to.

What else is in your garage?
4 wheelers, dirt bikes, race bikes and lots of race memorabilia, and horses too!

Any advice to the readers dreaming to turn pro?
Just put in the time, on the bike and off the bike. I see many kids that have the talent to turn pro, but they donot put in enough effort. Talent alone will not get you to the top, I promise ya. You have to make yourself have that drive to succeed, and you can never be happy with second best. Be yourself and Have Fun, and ooh yah, Never Give Up!

How many hours a week are you on Facebook?
Zilch, none as I donot have a facebook.

Do you Twitter?
Nope
