Vance & Hines XR1200 Series Race Report from New Jersey Motorsports Park
Round 4 of the Vance & Hines XR1200 Series saw RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing’s Jake Holden take his first win of the season on the XR1200 and at the same time move into points lead for the championship. Meanwhile, 17-year-old rising star, PJ Jacobsen fought an intense race-long battle with fellow up-can-comer Kyle Wyman to claim the second spot on the rostrum by a margin of just two-tenths of a second.
Danny Eslick, who had won the first three rounds of the series decided to sit out this weekend in order to fully focus on defending his Daytona Sportbike crown, where he maintains a slight margin in the points going into the final round at Barber Motorsports Park. Holden, however, took no prisoners this weekend, setting the fastest times in each session, grabbing the pole position, setting the fastest lap of the race and winning the race by a commanding margin.
Beyond the top three finishers, moto journalist, Steve Atlas acquitted himself impressively in his first outing on the XR riding for HOG Racing. Atlas ran consistently in the top five throughout the weekend, nailed a front row starting position in qualifying and brought the bike home unscathed for a very respectable fourth place finish. Travis Wyman, Joseph Rozynski, Paul James, Michael Corbino and Matthew Heidel rounded out the field, which saw every rider take the checkered flag without incident.
One race remains for the debut season of the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series, which will take place at the famed Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, September24-26. The XR1200 Series has quickly become a fan favorite at the track, bringing the unique v-twin rumble of the Harley-Davidson to the traditionally four-cylinder dominated road race scene. As several more dealers and new teams prepare for next season, expect to see a growing field of riders competing in the XR1200 class, which aims to become a regular fixture on the AMA Pro calendar.

XR1200 Series Round #3 Race Report: VIR
Round Three of the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series is now in the books, and reigning Daytona Sportbike Champion, Danny Eslick on the Richie Morris Racing Geico Powersports Lucas Oil Harley-Davidson XR1200, continued his perfect win record with a commanding victory this weekend at VIRginia International Raceway.
After taking the Pole Position on Saturday, Eslick looked to be in great shape to keep his streak going, and he did not disappoint, chalking up his third consecutive win in the maiden season for the XR1200 Series. Up-and-comer Travis Wyman scored his best result in the class with a second place finish, and Eslick’s RMR teammate, Jake Holden finished third. Holden had also pushed really hard setting the fastest lap of the race, but unfortunately had two off-course excursions that took him out of contention for the win.
At the grassroots level, interest in the XR1200 Series continues to grow steadily, with several Harley-Davidson dealers looking to setup teams for the 2011 season. To help get the word out about the new series, Vance & Hines and Harley-Davidson had race-prepared XR1200s on display at three locations for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally which also took place this past week. In addition, this weekend’s race at VIR saw two new riders in the field, Matthew Heidel and Mark Cernicky, as well as the return of Joe Rozynski on a Richie Morris Racing XR1200.
Across the pond, the XR1200 Trophy in the UK has also seen a lot of success this season. Most recently, American custom bike builder and former AMA 250 champion, Roland Sands, competed on an XR1200 for Shaw Harley-Davidson at Brands Hatch, finishing a very impressive sixth place.

AMA XR1200 Series: Mid-Ohio
After winning earlier in the day in AMA Pro Daytona SportBike, Danny Eslick repeated his wining form again with his second consecutive AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Eslick took his RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing Harley-Davidson XR1200 to another well deserved victory, this time ahead of Shawn Higbee, riding another XR1200 supported by HOG Racing.
Third was Danny's RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing teammate, Jake Holden. Holden and Eslick resumed their battle from the inaugural race at Road America but Holden fell back in the late stages today and finished third.
Kyle Wyman, one of three Wyman brothers racing at the Honda Super Cycle Weekend Presented by Dunlop Tire, took fourth on another RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing Harley-Davidson. His brother Travis ended up eighth riding the Harv's Harley-Davidson sponsored XR1200. Eric Stump was another rider taking part in multiple events this weekend and he took fifth ahead of John Ashmead.
Ashmead, a former Daytona 200 and SuperBike winner, was again riding his Brady Schwemmer Racing XR1200. Ashmead and the team had raced at Road America and in fact, had suffered a mishap due to another rider's oil leak, not their own as was reported in the last AMA Pro Racing report. Paul James finished behind Ashmead on the James Gang Hoban Brother's Racing XR1200 ahead of the aforementioned Eric Stump.
Danny Eslick says: "This class is a lot of fun, I just like riding the XR1200, and winning is going to make my drive to California that much more fun, looking at my two trophies all the way!"
